It was 2005 and the writing was on the wall for the long-running hockey magazine Hockey Sport.  One of its contributors, Peter Savage, was anxious that if it closed there would no longer be an independent outlet for hockey news in the England.  Podcasting was in its infancy at the time but Peter had formerly freelanced in local radio and had recently done some hockey work for BBC Radio Kent. That gave him the idea of a monthly on-line radio programme about hockey, and so TalkHockeyRadio was born.  A trial podcast was done on the occasion of the first indoor finals from the NIA in January 2006 and regular monthly podcasting started in April if that year.  A few months later Peter persuaded some of the big names in hockey writing to contribute to a monthly downloadable magazine, HockeyTalk.  Amongst the contributions have been Claire Middleton and Charles Randall from the Daily Telegraph, former Independent hockey writer Bill Colwill and his son Peter from The Observer, Gaynor Nash from the Leicester Mercury and Mike Haymonds from the Slough Express.  In September 2006 Tempest Sports came on board as our official sponsors and we gratefully acknowledge their support.
